We’re investing approximately £1 million to upgrade our gas network in the Doonfoot and Alloway areas of South Ayrshire.
This essential work involves the replacement of old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply.
In agreement with South Ayrshire Council, our project started on Tuesday 9 May and will last approximately 11 months. We’re carrying out our work in phases to reduce disruption as much as possible. During each phase, we’ll need to use a mixture of two, three or four-way temporary traffic lights to carry out our work safely.
We will also need to close Greenfield Road in the project's first phase and Scaur O’ Doon Road in our project’s second phase. More details about these closures including the diversion routes will follow.

Phase one: approximately 12 weeks
From Tuesday 9 May, we’ll be working in the following streets:
- Doonfoot Road, between its junctions with Greenfield Avenue and Belleisle Drive
- Greenfield Avenue, between its junctions with Doonfoot Road and B7024 Alloway
- Baird Road
Phase two: approximately 19 weeks
From Monday 31 July, we’ll be working in the following streets:
- B7024 Alloway, between its junction with Greenfield Avenue and Wellington Doonside Practice Fields
- Longhill Avenue, between its junctions with High Maybole Road and Doonbank Park
- Abbots Way, Earls Way, Castle Walk, Greenan Road, Knoweholm, Lochpark, Murdoch’s Loan, Scaur O’ Doon Road and Shanter Way
Phase three: approximately 12 weeks
From Monday 8 January, we’ll be working in the following streets:
- Dunure Road, between its junctions with Scaur O’ Doon Road and Longhill Avenue
- Longhill Avenue, between its junctions with Dunure Road and Lamford Drive
- Cairnsmore Drive, Craigstewart Crescent, Glenalla Crescent, Lamford Drive, Newark Crescent, Portmark Avenue and Stonefield Park
