Working in the field with high-energy tools like cut off saws, grinders and grit blasters causes a lot of dust. This can affect members of the public around our sites, but has even more impact on our engineers.
Regularly doing work with these tools increases the risks, even if you are wearing an FFP3 mask for protection. The more enclosed the space, the more the dust.
This project is developing a device designed to suppress dust, preventing as much of it as possible from getting into the air. We’re collaborating with our partners Oxford Product Designs to create the concept. The company has worked on dust filtration with Dyson and developed respiratory PPE for medical professionals.
Together, we’re developing a detailed design which we’ll turn into a working prototype. We want to create a small device powered by an air compressor that can be used with multiple tools, including all rock drills – which generate the most dust in our industry.
