Millions of our customers can change their home energy use habits to save money and lessen their impact on the environment through our new energy efficiency tool.

Developed in support with Energy Saving Trust, the tool provides users with a personalised plan to use energy more efficiently at home. By answering a few questions about their property, homeowners could save an average of £110 a year on their energy bills.

How much could you save?

Take the quick and easy virtual tour of a typical home in our new energy efficiency tool to see how much you could save on your gas and electricity bills.

Try the tool and start saving

It indicates which appliances cost the most to run and suggests implementing subtle changes to make substantial savings as the UK continues to battle increased cost-of-living impacts. Via a virtual tour of a typical home, users are incentivised to introduce measures such as replacing old lightbulbs with energy-efficient alternatives, avoiding leaving appliances on standby, and minimising heat lost to draughty doors and windows.

A report is then emailed to users with a tailored action plan identifying cost-effective efficiency and renewable investment solutions as well as advice on how to save energy. There’s also a dedicated helpline with energy advisors on hand to provide free energy packs and information on increasing your household income.

Customers can also play their part in helping the environment by reducing home energy use. For example, washing clothes and heating rooms at lower temperatures will reduce emissions generated by these activities.

Our Vulnerability Manager Linda Spence said: “Our engineers see first-hand the impact living in a cold, damp property has on people’s wellbeing, especially vulnerable customers struggling to afford to heat their homes. Customers can find simple ways to reduce their energy use with this tool and unlock savings within minutes.

“People can also access further support through our advice helpline to reduce energy consumption and increase household incomes. This support is available to all SGN customers and its community partners and will help make a real difference to people’s lives as the country continues to face increased cost-of-living challenges.”

We’ve got additional advice on how you can safely reduce energy costs in your home during this challenging economic climate. Here you’ll find practical ways your household could lower the cost of gas and electricity.
