Road closure: Chichester Road, Bognor Regis for essential gas main replacement
From Monday 1 June to Friday 25 September 2026, our contractors, JB Utilities Limited, will carry out a programme of work to replace the gas main along Chichester Road in Bognor Regis.
These works are essential to ensure we can continue to provide residents and the community with a safe and efficient gas supply and to avoid gas leaks in the future.
We will be replacing old metal gas pipes with new plastic gas pipes on Chichester Road from the junction of Loats Lane to Fairlands.
Due to the location of the gas pipes in the road, for everyone’s safety, we will need to temporarily close the road in three phases as follows. Please note: the dates below may change, as progress depends on the condition of the gas pipe being replaced and access to properties for service connections. Residents affected will receive further communications regarding service connections.

Following feedback from local councillors and to support residents with clearer information around vehicle access arrangements, we have made changes to our project plans.
We have made changes to phase two of our work - details below.
Please note: these timelines are subject to change as they are dependent on the condition of the gas pipe being replaced and access to properties to complete service connections.
Phase one
Monday 1 June to Friday 19 June
Temporary road closure on Chichester Road from the junction of The Boulevard to the junction of North Bersted Street.
Phase two
Monday 22 June to Friday 21 August
To help ensure access arrangements are clear during phase two, we have broken this phase into four sections as follows:
Phase two (a)
From Monday 22 June for approximately two weeks
We'll be working on Chichester Road from The Boulevard to the junction of Newbarn Lane.
During this phase, The Boulevard junction with Chichester Road will be temporarily closed – vehicle access will be via Elbridge Avenue.
Phase two (b)
From Monday 6 July for approximately two weeks
We'll be working on Chichester Road from the junction of Newbarn Lane to Bucksham Avenue.
Vehicle access to Newbarn Lane will be from the east side of the closure, and Bucksham Avenue from the west side of the closure.
Phase two (c)
From Monday 20 July for approximately two weeks
We'll be working between the junctions of Bucksham Avenue and Brazwick Avenue.
During this phase, Bucksham Avenue will be accessible from the east side of the closure, and Brazwick Avenue will be accessible from the west side of the closure.
Phase two (d)
From Monday 3 August for approximately two weeks
Our work will take place from Brazwick Avenue to Loats Lane.
Vehicle access arrangements for Brazwick Avenue, the petrol station and ASDA are still being assessed due to the location of the gas main; further updates will be provided once plans are confirmed.
Phase three
Monday 24 August to Friday 25 September
Temporary road closure on Chichester Road from the junction of Fairlands to North Bersted Street.
These closures will mean
- No through vehicle access through the closure in either direction – a signed diversion route will be in place
- Vehicle access to properties and side roads within the closure will be maintained – our site team will keep residents informed of arrangements
- Pedestrian and cycle access through the closure will be maintained
- Bus routes will be affected – please contact your service provider for the latest updates
- Bin collection days will remain unchanged unless you hear otherwise
