We’re more than a network of pipes – people are everything to us. What we do as a business affects the towns and cities we live and work in, so it’s important to us to support our communities.
Community Action Programme
Every year, you – along with your colleagues – can take a day on company time to volunteer for charities or good causes in our local communities. We’ve completed some great projects over the years, including creating a dementia-friendly garden at a Clydebank care home and transforming a tiger enclosure at an animal sanctuary in Kent.
Solutions for the planet
We’ve partnered with Solutions for the Planet to mentor young people in its student sustainability programme. The annual Big Ideas competition gives young people a chance to design and develop innovative solutions to societal and environmental problems. Our volunteer mentors work with school-based groups to encourage them to explore opportunities and careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Once again in 2021, an SGN-mentored team reached the national final of the Big Ideas competition.
Supporting our most vulnerable customers
Taking care of our customers, especially those in vulnerable circumstances, is part of our DNA. We provide a range of free extra help services for people who need extra support to stay safe and warm at home. We also partner with experts such as Age Scotland, National Energy Action and Scope so we can help even more customers get the help they need.
We’ve recently joined Britain’s three other gas networks to partner with the Fuel Bank Foundation, providing the charity with a combined £500,000 donation over two years to support households in a fuel crisis.
